About

Built for the pickup game.

Joga shows who's actually at the field right now, based on real check-ins, so you know it's worth the trip before you leave.

The story

Every pickup player knows the routine. Someone asks the group chat who's playing tonight. A couple of people say maybe. You drive over anyway, and you find either a full run with no room for one more or an empty field and a sprinkler system.

The information that would have saved you the trip already exists. It's standing on the field. The players who are there right now know exactly how many of them there are. Joga asks them to tap one button when they arrive, and that tap turns into a field lighting up on everyone else's map.

That only works when enough players in one place are using it, which is why Joga starts in Tempe: the fields at ASU's Sun Devil Fitness Complex, and the parks and courts across the city where a game could be happening right now. Getting one town right comes first.

  • Why Joga

Pickup runs on group chats and guesswork. You text “Who’s playing tonight?”, wait, and show up hoping there’s a game. Joga puts it on a map: fields light up as players check in, so you see the game before you go.

  • Who’s building it

Joga is built by Lincoln Vondra, founder and developer, in Tempe, Arizona.

  • Where it starts

Joga launches first in Tempe, AZ: for ASU students playing at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex fields, and for pickup players across the city.

What we care about.

  • If a field lights up, someone's there

Every number on the map comes from a person at that field, either checking in or counting heads for the people who didn't. We'd rather show you an empty field than make a quiet one look busy.

  • Tempe comes first

It's where Joga is being built, and where we know the fields: which ones have lights, which ones are turf, and which ones want a student ID at the gate. We want to get one town right before we try a second.

  • We'll tell you where it's at

Joga isn't out yet, and we won't pretend otherwise. When something ships, or breaks, the blog is where you'll hear about it.

Say hi.
